- PAC - Principal Advisory Council
The Principal Advisory council (PAC) is a representative group of principals that meet six times per year with personnel from the Office of the Schools and the Office of Religious Education. Elementary schools are divided into four geographic regions in the Diocese of Metuchen and there is one high school region. Each region elects one principal to represent them on the Principal Advisory Council and these principals are empowered, in collaboration with the diocesan personnel, to discuss and recommend on issues such as diocesan policy, professional development for principals and teachers, Catholic Identity in the schools, supervision and appraisal process for principals and teachers, development, governance, enrollment and retention trends, student achievement results, student conduct codes, schools safety practices, school advisory councils, viability assessments, funding and grants for federal and state programs, Middle States accreditation, strategic and budget planning, religious education and campus ministry in the schools, testing and measurement of student performance, capital improvement, and curriculum development.
The PAC principals then convene meetings with the principals in their region and solicit their input on the current issues and concerns. This input is then looped back to all the PAC members as feedback and the cycle of communication continues.

- Principal's Reflection
Before you move ahead, you have to reflect back on this year. As principal, how do you say your year enfolded? Did you meet your goals - as expected? Perhaps you had such a great year that you exceeded your wildest dreams. Sometimes, our best dreams are dimmed because of unexpected happenings. Perhaps you did not meet your best goals.
Dream anew on how you will improve as principal next year.
- School Improvement Plan
Write the Vision Down
Goals:Note the new name, “School Improvement Plan” because that's what it is meant to be - a plan to help you to effectively meet the changing realities of a new school year
The goals - academic, institutional, spiritual development - must be your goals, based on your school realities.
Academically, look to your Terra Nova results over time and across the grades. What are the needs reflected on those results.? Look to your own Middle States goals. Do those academic goals align with your Terra Nova needs.? Look at your day to day observations and conversations to find your greatest academic goals.
Write your goals in broad, clear and simple sentences. Make the goal clear enough and exciting and true enough so that all can say, "Yes, I want that for our students!"
Institutional goals are all about your future. What do you need to address in order to stay alive and well in the ever-competitive marketplace of education? Finances? Communications? Marketing? Development? Governance?
Your Spiritual Development Goals must be based on the needs of your school community: Staff, students, families. "Why are we here in this school called Catholic?" What do we long to become?
Objectives:
The yearly focus on your goal is called an objective. What are we going to concentrate on this year so that our goal can be realized?
The objective is a "piece of the goal." e.g. If your goal is “strong communicators” your annual objective might be to "Concentrate on writing across the curriculum" or "Formal writing program across the grade" or "Writing in Response to Reading" or....
- Principals Improvement Plan
PIPs and TIPs must connect to your school goal and yearly objective. "What do I need to do this year to better understand our school goal and yearly objectives? Do I need to study more about reading comprehension? Do I need attend workshops/ conferences that have a emphasis on our goal/objective? Plan your your own improvement. Your own improvement will impact the goal you have for your school community. - Teacher' Improvement Plan
