A call to all deacons – We still have a large number of deacons who do not have their ministry agreements updated. IF YOU ARE A DEACON WHO HAS NOT UPDATED HIS MINISTRY AGREEMENT, PLEASE DO SO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Ministry Agreements are required to be updated at a minimum of every 5 years.
A call to all deacons - We still have a number of deacons who have not submitted their continuing education results for 2006. Under the deacon policy for continuing education, all deacons are requested to submit their 2006 annual continuing education efforts by June 30, 2007.
2008 Operation Rice Bowl - As you are aware, our Diocese of Metuchen participates in Catholic Relief Services' Operation Rice Bowl. If you would like to become more involved in this effort in your parish, speak with your pastor and contact Fr. Joseph Kerrigan, 732-545-1681 or JJKerrigan@crsmetuchen.org.
Formation Class 2010 - Year end reviews will be held the last week of May and first week of June for the Class 2010 as they complete their 2nd year of formation. Assignments of candidates to parishes will also be finalized during May.
Formation Class 2012 - Reviews have been completed on 15 applicants for the new Formation Class. A final meeting of the Acceptance Committee is scheduled for May 12, 2008 at which time the applicants will receive recommendations for approval to Bishop Paul Bootkoski. The meeting with the Bishop is scheduled for May 14, 2008.

Summit 2008 - The Director of the Diaconate attended the National Association of Deacon Directors Conference on April 19-23, 2008.Combined with this conference was the National Ministry Summit, a collaboration of six national ministerial organizations including NADD, to study the emerging models of pastoral leadership in the Catholic Church. The project was completed after 3 years of identifying marks of excellence for vibrant parishes across the United States. The goal now is to explore ways in which the six national organizations can collaborate to serve the Church.
Deacon Wives and Deacon Candidate Wives attended a Day of Reflection on April 26, 2008 held at St. Joseph's Shrine. A total of 30 wives were in attendance. The day was presented by Dr. Linda Baratte, Director, Center for Theological & Spiritual Development, College of St. Elizabeth.
Deacon Stephen Gunther - Please welcome Deacon Stephen Gunther, who is requesting incardination into the Diocese of Metuchen. Deacon Gunther is from the Paterson Diocese and now lives in Great Meadows. He will begin his three year probationary period before incardination and will be assigned to minister in Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Great Meadows.
Ten Year Anniversary - The Formation Class 1998 will celebrate 10 years of ordination Friday evening, May 30, 2008. Mass will be celebrated by Father Anthony Ciorra at Our Lady of Peace Parish, North Brunswick, followed by a celebration dinner at the parish hall. Expecting to attend are 17 of the 19 in the ordination class.
