Diocese of Metuchen sponsors Critical Life Issues Conference

PISCATAWAY - The Diocese of Metuchen will host its eighth annual Critical Life Issues Conference on Oct. 24 at the St. John Neumann Conference Center, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The day will begin with Mass celebrated by Bishop Emeritus Edward T. Hughes. Sponsored by the Office of Respect for Life, the theme of this year’s conference is “Creating an Environment of Life, Justice, Love and Hope.”

According to Jennifer A. Ruggiero, diocesan director of the Office of Respect for Life, the goals of the conference are to provide information about the precarious state of human rights around the world, explore how the environment is being negatively affected by discarded contraceptives, discuss how environmental toxins can affect the unborn, and uncover facts regarding overpopulation.

Speaking at the conference will be Marie Smith on the global struggle for a culture of life; Steven Mosher on the myth of overpopulation and Mary-Louise Kurey on the sanctity of life from womb to tomb. Mark LeChevallier, a nationally recognized research scientist in water treatment modalities, will present a new focus, “the green alternative,” to birth control pills which threaten the nation’s water supply.

Admission to the conference is $25. For more information on the Critical Life Issues Conference, call Ruggiero at (732) 562-1990, ext. 1629; email respect.life@dimetuchen.org or go to www.diometuchen.org and follow the “Depts./Ministries” link to “Office for Pro-Life.”
