Proposal Planning and Writing Basics

The Foundation Center has an excellent online program – Proposal Writing Short Course – that can be found at http://fdncenter.org/learn/shortcourse/prop1.html.

Although application guidelines may vary from program to program, they usually require the applicant to address several key components in their proposal. Whether you're writing a five or forty page narrative, your proposal will be complete if it includes an executive summary, statement of need, project description including target audience and evaluation methods, budget, organizational information, and a conclusion. You can find descriptions of each of these components on our Components Page.
