The Office of
Development ensures that the vital ministries of the Diocese of
Metuchen receive the financial support necessary to continue to grow
and thrive.
Seeking financial gifts is very important because it inspires God's
people to holiness through the practice of self-giving.
The basis for giving is founded on the principle of sound
stewardship, the belief that recognizes and honors God's ultimate
ownership and unlimited generosity in all things. As mature
disciples we've made a conscious decision to be followers of Jesus
Christ. Stewardship is an expression of our discipleship.
A Christian steward receives God's gifts gratefully, cherishes and
tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in
justice and love with others, and returns them in gratitude with
increase to the Lord.
To return to God a just portion of our many blessings is a practical
application and a real demonstration of our Christianity. If we
recognize that we are merely custodians, not owners of our material
goods, then our gift becomes an occasion and a celebration of growth
in faith. We are then able to live and work and to possess goods
recognizing that they come to us by the grace of God.
The Lord has instructed us to bear witness to Him by returning a
fair portion of what we have in support of His Church, not because
we must but because the love of God is alive within us.
