"Expectant" and "First" time Parent Workshops (adoptive or biological) are held twice a year. Professional therapists, a priest and couple mentors share practical hints and suggestions that will enhance their relationship and their spirituality as couples and parents. Opportunities are provided for sharing the joys and/or uncertainties about their roles as "new" or "prospective" parents.
Parent Support Groups provide occasions for parents to meet in small groups to share experiences and discuss ideas that help improve family relations and open parent/child communication. The Family Life Ministry Office provides assistance in developing parish-based groups. To set up a parenting group in your parish or for additional information, please contact the Family Life Office at 732-562-1990 x1624.
Elizabeth Ministry is an outreach in which women help other women during a time of pregnancy, birth, adoption or infant crisis. This ministry provides support to those who are suffering the pain of miscarriage, infertility, or failed adoption. Shared joy and support are also available throughout a woman’s pregnancy, particularly following the birth of a child.
Women volunteers are trained to become Elizabeth ministers in the areas they have experienced (i.e. multiple births, adoption, or difficult pregnancies). For additional information, please contact the Family Life Office (732) 562-1990 Ext. 1624.
Following the example of Mary and Elizabeth,
we visit and share the sacredness of life.
Elizabeth Ministry Prayer
Creator God, I pledge to truly celebrate the gift
Of each child conceived and born, and
Fully mourn each miscarriage, abortion,
Stillbirth, infant or child’s death.
I will be strong witness to my belief
In the dignity and worth of life, by treasuring
The gift of fertility, by encouraging those in the
Adoption process, and by assisting families
Experiencing an infant or child’s crisis.
I will be a strong and consistent voice for life
In my home, my church, my community,
and the world.
Amen
