Diocese of Metuchen PRESS RELEASE Diocese of Metuchen Announces New Corporate Structure for Saint Peter’s University Hospital and its Affiliates-- Hospital and affiliates reorganized under new parent company, PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 11, 2007) – The Most Reverend Paul G. Bootkoski, Bishop of the Diocese of Metuchen which sponsors Saint Peter’s University Hospital, has announced organizational changes that separate non-hospital business ventures from hospital operations. These changes were recommended to the Bishop by the Board of Trustees of Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Bishop Bootkoski also announced the appointments of Ronald C. Rak, J.D. as President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, Inc. and Alfred L. Glover as President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Rak previously served as chairman of the hospital’s board of trustees and most recently as the hospital’s interim chief executive officer. Glover, the hospital’s former chief operating officer, had served as the hospital’s interim president. No other appointments have yet been announced. As part of the reorganization, the existing parent corporation, Catholic Health New Jersey, Inc. has been renamed Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, Inc. and will serve as a governing body to oversee the strategic vision and management of the whole Saint Peter’s healthcare delivery system. Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, Inc. will directly oversee three entities – Saint Peter’s University Hospital, Saint Peter’s Foundation, and the newly formed Saint Peter’s Health & Management Services Corporation. Each of these entities will have their own board of trustees and management team. The Health & Management Services Corporation will direct its focus on the organization’s ambulatory facilities, such as the CARES Surgicenter and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in New Brunswick, and the Sports Physical Therapy Institute, Community Care Services, Inc. (a durable medical equipment company), Homecare America (a medical supply and products store), and the Margaret McLaughlin McCarrick Care Center, Inc. in Somerset. Goals of the reorganization include:
“With the creation of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, we have taken a bold step to insure the future of Saint Peter’s University Hospital, and more importantly, assure the people of Central New Jersey that the wonderful care they receive at our hospital and affiliates will continue for decades to come,” said Bishop Bootkoski. “Having known and worked with Ron Rak for a number of years, I am confident that the right person was selected to lead our organization. The selection of Al Glover as President and CEO of the hospital will be truly welcomed by our doctors, nurses and support staff. He is a strong advocate for our physicians, highly regarded by the staff, and committed to providing the highest quality of patient care. Together, Ron and Al have been instrumental in developing a vision for Saint Peter’s University Hospital. Now they will be at the forefront of initiatives that will enable that vision to become a reality.”
