THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
   Monday evening: 6:30 - 6:50 PM
   Saturday: Following the 5:00 PM Mass
Confessions heard upon request at any time.
 
Special Penance Services and additional Confessions are available during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
 
 
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
   Every second Sunday of the month, immediately following the 12:00 Noon Mass. Baptism class for parents is required at least two months before the Sacrament is celebrated. Arrangements must be made through the Parish Office. Due to the penetential nature of the season, Baptisms are NOT celebrated during the Season of Lent. Parish registration is required for celebration of the Sacrament.
 
 
THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
   Arrangements should be made with the Pastor at least one year in advance, which is Common Policy for the Diocese of Metuchen. The Pre-Cana Conference or Engaged Encounter is a required part of the marriage preparation. Either the bride or the groom must be a registered member of the parish for celebration of the Sacrament.
 
 
DEVOTIONS
Eucharistic Adoration: First Sunday of every month, following the 12:00 Noon Mass. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament continues throughout the afternoon, and concludes with Sung Evening Prayer and Benediction at 4:00 P.M.
 
Liturgy of the Hours: Prayed before Daily Mass, Monday through Saturday.
 
Miraculous Medal Novena: Every Monday evening following the 7:00 PM Mass.
 
Saint Anthony of Padua Novena: Every Thursday evening following the 7:00 PM Mass.
 
Devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:  Every First Friday of the month following the 8:00 AM Mass.
 
Devotions to the Immaculate Heart of Mary:  Every First Saturday of the month following the 8:00 AM Mass.

Cars, houses, and devotional items (rosaries, scapulars, statues, etc.) are blessed upon request at any time! Call or stop by the Parish Office to make arrangements.

 

PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK

   The Bishop of Metuchen has assigned full time priest-chaplains to John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, Robert Wood Johnson/University Hospital and St. Peter's Medical Center in New Brunswick, as well as Raritan Bay Medical Center - Perth Amboy and Old Bridge Divisions, to minister to those hospitalized. Please notify the Parish Office when a parishioner is in the hospital. If possible Father Mike or Father Peter will pay a visit.
 
Visits to homebound parishioners are done by the parish priests on the First Friday of every month, as well as in emergencies. To arrange a visit, or to have your name or that of a loved one added to our parish Prayer List, please call the Parish Office.

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is celebrated communally during Sunday Mass once a year. Please check the Bulletin for details. This Sacrament is also celebrated upon request at any time (not only in case of extreme emergency). Should you desire receiving this Sacrament during serious illness or before surgery, please call the Parish Office.

Parish Membership
   St. Anthony is a territorial parish; its boundaries have been determined by the Diocese of Metuchen. Catholics residing in the Port Reading or Sewaren area should be registered at St. Anthony's. You must be registered and contributing for 3 months for sponsorship recommendation. If you are not registered we cannot serve you in connection with sponsorship for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Matrimony. Please register at the Parish Office. Also, please notify the Parish Office if you move out of the area.
