Discernment Groups & Retreats

The Office of Vocations sponsors a number of discernment opportunities and retreats during the year.

1) A monthly discernment group for men ages 16 and up meets at the St John Vianney House of Discernment in Hopelawn (Woodbridge Twp.), NJ. The meetings are at 7:30 p.m. and, at each meeting, a presentation is given on a variety of priestly topics, followed by time for questions, socializing and prayer.

The meetings for January through April, 2008 are as follows:

2) A Life Awareness Retreat is sponsored by our office in cooperation with the Serra Clubs of the Diocese of Metuchen. This weekend is open to men and women ages 18-50 who wish to discern God's call to priesthood or religious life. The team is composed of vocation office staff as well as religious brothers and sisters from the diocese. The next weekend will be held June 27-29, 2008. 3) A day of prayer and discernment is usually held once or twice a year for men ages 18-50 that are looking at the possibility of priesthood or religious life. These days generally consist of prayer, sharing and a meal.

4) There are discernment groups held for women available through a number of religious communities. Contact the Vocations Office for more information.

5) A few times a year a dinner with Bishop Bootkoski is held for those men, high school age and up, who feel drawn to exploring the possibility of Priesthood. If you are interested please see your parish priest who will forward your name to the Vocations Office.
