It is the
responsibility of all Catholic people to pray for and encourage
vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life. Some
possible ways to do this at the elementary and high school level
include:
Praying for vocations:
- weekly, daily
- use prayer cards available through the vocations office
Incorporate vocations into lesson plans:
- baptismal call to Holiness
- vocation
- marriage
- Holy Orders
- religious life
- lay ministry
- diaconate
Display posters/use a bulletin board focusing on vocation themes
Advertise, encourage diocesan programs such as:
- Camp Christopher, Camp Maria, Awareness Weeks, and Evenings of
Discernment
Have a Mass or prayer service for vocations
Invite guest speakers
to share their story with your students
Have presentation for
parents on their role as Christian mothers and fathers and how they
might foster vocations
Hold a vocation
day/fair
Involve students in
service and ministry opportunities
Adopt a seminarian,
priest, religious
- pray for them
- write to them
- invite them to your class
Be aware of your own vocation
- share this with your students
Encourage parish priests, deacons, religious to be involved with your
students/programs
Incorporate vocations into Confirmation retreat
