Parish Custodian Parish of the Visitation New Brunswick, NJ
The Parish of the Visitation in New Brunswick is seeking a full-time custodian. The ideal candidate will be responsible for general maintenance, cleaning and caretaking of the facilities and grounds. Must be reliable, dependable, able to perform manual labor, be familiar with operating equipment (lawn mower, snow blower, snowplow, etc.) and must have a valid driver’s license.
Duties include but not limited to:
Receive written or verbal instructions from Pastor.
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as: painting, plumbing and other maintenance activities using appropriate hand tools and equipment.
Daily/ Weekly cleaning of Church, Office building, CYO building, etc.
Prepare rooms for meetings/events; breaks down conference room at conclusion of meetings; stores furniture and equipment
Detects and reports defective materials, structural problems and any unsafe or questionable conditions to Pastor
Maintains facility grounds and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly condition; follows prescribed safety regulations; utilizes safety gear and protective equipment as required.
Cuts lawns using power mower. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds and walls using clippers, weed cutters and edging tools.
Assists with snow removal by shoveling walks and uses snowplow for driveways and parking lots. Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience: One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 3-6 months related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver’s license. Must be able to read and interpret operating, safety rules and maintenance instructions. Ability to understand and speak effectively with customers, Vendors or employees of the Parish.
