A 'synodal' process is taking place in the Catholic Church from October 2021
that will culminate in the Two Synod Gatherings in Rome in October 2023 and October 2024.
In the early months of 2022, the Diocese of Metuchen conducted numerous synod listening sessions supporting the synod process. These meetings were held in every deanery across the four-county diocese and by several groups, religious orders, and communities with in-person and virtual gatherings. The Diocese of Metuchen also implemented an online questionnaire that gathered hundreds of responses.
Many ideas and thoughts were expressed in the gatherings and written responses, and this report, submitted to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), is a synthesis of these.
The First Session of the XVI General Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops occurred in the Paul VI Hall within Vatican City from October 4-29, 2023.
Below are links to moments of prayer, highlight videos, podcast recordings from Vatican Radio, video press conferences, and documents from the Holy See Press Office.
All materials are provided through the Holy See Press Office.
At the conclusion of the first session, the following Synthesis Report 'A Synodal Church in Mission' was published:
A Synodal Church In Mission
Una Igelsia Sinodal En Misión
The General Secretariat of the Synod published the “Instrumentum laboris”, the document that will guide the work of the two-part General Assembly meeting in Rome in October 2023 and October 2024.
