A two-year 'synodal' process is taking place in the Catholic Church from October 2021
that will culminate in the final Synod Gathering in Rome in October 2023.
In the early months of 2022, the Diocese of Metuchen conducted numerous synod listening sessions supporting the synod process. These meetings were held in every deanery across the four-county diocese and by several groups, religious orders, and communities with in-person and virtual gatherings. The Diocese of Metuchen also implemented an online questionnaire that gathered hundreds of responses.
Many ideas and thoughts were expressed in the gatherings and written responses, and this report, submitted to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), is a synthesis of these.
As the Church throughout the world officially opens the diocesan phase of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission, Tara and Jerry of the Diocese of Metuchen's Office of Communications and Public Relations give an update on what is taking place and how we can prepare to respond to the spirit, who is already moving in our local Church.
Join Tara and Jerry, and their friends, Sr. Anna Nguyen, SCC, Sr. Dong Hong Marie Zhang, CSSF, Br. Steven Bolton, CO, and Luz Escobar of the diocesan Office of Hispanic Evangelization, in praying a multilingual rosary for the success of the Synod on Synodality. The rosary is prayed in English, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Latin, and Spanish, highlighting a snippet of the diverse church in our backyard.
